This was a very good book. I only wish I would have read it before my dog went to sleep as I would have done some things differently - I really would have tried to have his last day be better and do some of his favorite things, and I would have cut some of his fur to have it with me forever. It was very helpful in validating some of my strong feelings of loss. My advice would read this now especially if your furry friend has an illness or is getting old. It may help to prepare you.

This book helped so much! I was devastated when I lost my Westie, Lady cancer/ kidney disease at the age of 10. After caring for her for one and 1/2 years I was lost. This book understands what you feel.

I selected this particular book because the dog on the cover looks exactly like our Scarlett. We had to put her down in July due to severe arthritis that made her totally immobile and in a tremendous amount of pain. Other than that, she was healthy which made the decision even harder. She was 11 and the light of my life. The letter in the book from the dog to the owner was extremely comforting to me even though it brought tears to my eyes. The book hit upon many things that I was feeling as well as stupid things people say that aren't dog lovers. This all helped. I have highlighted many portions of this book in my reader so I can refer back to it later when I feel a breakdown coming. It is a good book to help people who have lost pets.

It helped me to know it OK to grieve about losing my Jesse and that all of us pet parents feel some degree of guilt when our best buddy passes...all of us feel that “what did I miss”? After scheduling euthanasia for our thirteen year-old Redone Coonhound, I searched for a book on pet bereavement. Liver failure had stolen his quality of life for too long already. I was a few chapters in when that day arrived, and it helped me be more supportive to my son, who was Duke's most important person. What I was not prepared for was losing my own best boy, a Beagle mix named Beethoven, not one month later. Every week to ten days, I would read another chapter and feel the heavy veil of grief lift just a little. Today I finished the book, along with a box of tissues. I still have a long way to go, but I have no doubt I will one pass by their Cremains, photos, and collars and reminisce with a smile instead of these tears. This book has already helped me so much.

Read it, it's a comfort. Has some good ideas. It helps to know, I'm not the only one that feels this way.

I ordered this book when I thought the end was imminent for my 18 year old dog, Audrey. Thankfully, she is still here 2 months later and I have had a chance to read and cry while reading this book with her at my feet. About the Author

Frederick L. Dillon is a mathematics specialist and coach for the Institute for Learning at the University of Pittsburgh. For the Strongsville City Schools, Fred was a classroom teacher for middle and high school and was the mathematics department chair at the high school. Fred is a past member of the Board of Directors for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and is a former officer for both the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Greater Cleveland Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Among Fred’s recognitions are Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching, the American Star of Teaching, the Tandy Award, and the Christofferson-Fawcett Award for lifetime contribution to mathematics education. He also received the Most Influential Educator Award from Strongsville High School students seven times. Fred is also the co-author of NCTM’s Principles to Actions: Ensuring Mathematical Success for All, Taking Action: Implementing Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices in Grades 9-12 and Discovering Lessons for the Common Core State Standards in Grades 9-12. Included are examples, progressions of tasks, and descriptions of what should be done to foster deep learning.The content on its 468+XXXVI pages is clearly divided into Introduction, 6 parts subdivided into not numbered chapters, Resources with 2 tables, 11 Reproducibles, and Additional Resources and References. Each chapter represents a topic subdivided into sub-chapters containing specific techniques, but not numbered and thus not very convenient to locate. Each technique is condensed/summarized in a list and may contain a table or a template. After the initial reading, it can be used for studying just particular techniques, just of specific topic, or warming up.The book is in black, white and green, 2 shades of green and 2 of gray. Its layout is modern, clear, and graphically advanced to emphasize most frequently needed info. The titles of chapters and sub-chapters are green in a capitalized typeface in 2 sizes, while those inside are boldfaced. Thus, grasping the pages at 1st glance is easy. No pages of the book are shown by the Amazon's "LOOK INSIDE!" function. This binder is a wonderful resource for anyone teaching Common Core math at the high school level. It has conceptual overviews and how to make direct connections. It goes on with what the teachers do and what is then expected of the students. There are suggested material for each of the standards. This book basically lays out everything concisely and clearly so teachers can plan their lessons.The book has parts that cover Modeling, Number and Quantity, Algebra, Functions, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. It doesn't directly go over trigonometry or calculus. The Resources section has a table of standards and some reproducibles. There is also a list of online tools and some books that are of value. It's been quite some time since I taught this, but I'm glad to have this companion to ease me into it.

This is an extraordinary resource that I wish I had had when I taught Math in high school. Not having the training or the resources to teach math, this would have helped me a lot. Not only are the standards clear, but also how to demonstrate different concepts and how to integrate them into planning.

This is followed by instructions on what the teacher does in class, and what the students do in class. Then another short section talks about addressing student misconceptions and common errors.It seems to me that this book could be very useful to a parent who is helping a child with high school math homework. The clear explanation of each standard makes it possible to determine what the child’s actual homework assignments are supposed to be teaching, and what the child needs to learn.

As a parent of a certain generation, I've found it nearly impossible to understand Common Core (which replaced the "New Math" that confused our own parents. It's always something...) This book has been a great resource as we try to help our middle-school son navigate the new standards, and more importantly, the new high-stakes testing.

I will state that I am not a teacher, educator or really anyone who should be teaching math at any level. I have always had the hardest time with mathematics throughout my whole life. Now I am trying to help my teenager, who is having a lot of the same problems that I did, learn basic algebra and it has not been going well. I've noticed that a lot of what and how they are teaching her is wildly different than what I learned because of the Common Core standards. I decided to get this very bulky book in hopes of helping myself so that I can help her. This has actually been a really big help for me to get back up to speed on the concepts that my child is learning. It is broken down in to segmented chapters that help me not only understand what she is being taught, but also help her make sense of the information she is taking in. I cannot speak for the educator side, but as a parent looking to figure out how to help your child it has been very useful.
