Yeah, I know, it's a kid's book but in for a penny, in for a pound as I have read all the rest so had to grab this. One of the funnier ones and since it is easy for me to identify with a middle schooler heading off for summer camp even though it has been over 50 years, the book brought back the flashes of angst, humor, embarrassment and fun of my attending Boy Scout camp back in the 50's in NH. A clever, well written and illustrated series. Probably could have left out the pet pig part. Other than that, fun mind candy - give it to your kids when you are done!
I read the entire Diary of a Wimpy Kid series in one week to date while recovering from an accident, so I'll do a blanket comment on the series on this one. The dialogue is believable as being written by a kid Greg's age. He's got a good heart, but he's flawed in a lot of ways too. He's under constant torment from wanna-be rock star older brother Rodrick, and overshadowed by pampered, precocious younger brother Manny who calls him "Bubby" at the worst possible moments. Best friend Rowley is a well-traveled, clueless only child who good naturedly goes along with most of Greg's schemes; Greg dismisses him by saying things like "I don't know why we're even friends" and "I guess that's why I put up with him" but on at least two occasions when he has upset Rowley to the point where they're not speaking, Greg misses him terribly and ends up going out of his way to reconcile with him. Greg wants to be popular but struggles with his ordinariness. But that is what makes Greg so relatable: his ordinariness. He's not the best looking, the brightest, the most talented, or the most anything. His deadpan, wry sense of humor made me laugh out loud several times, and I am well past the intended age group the book was written for. I hope Mr. Kinney takes Greg past middle school and beyond: I know I will be reading.
I liked this book because it was funny and how a kid gets into a car crash with his grandfather watching him it was hilarious and I hope Jeff Kenney writes more books good job Jeff Kenny keep diary of a wimpy kid series going ðŸ˜
My son is an 11 yr old, 6 grader who has dyslexia and struggles with reading..needless to say reading is not his favorite subject.However, he LOVES LOVES LOVES the Diary of a wimpy kid books. This latest one Old school he read in 1 day..YES 1 whole day..When done reading all he had to say while beaming ear to ear was "I love this author".. I thought it was so cute.I TOTALLY RECOMMEND the entire series..5 stars!Mr. Jeff Kinney, I don't know how fast you can write but I so hope you're working on the next one..I need you.To have struggling readers highly engaged in a book is truly AMAZING... Thank You!
My daughters get excited when a new Diary of a Wimpy Kid come out and when I saw this book I immediately bought it. This was the first series my 13 year old started reading on her own. She never was interested in reading until she started reading this series and read the book within two days. She told me that the books are funny and she can relate with them. This book Middle School is the dumbest idea ever invented and right now my daughter agrees. My 10 year old just started on the series and she likes the books too. I am happy that this book will keep my girls attention and will go in their book collections.
What's not to love about the wimpy kid books!?? My grandsons are crazy about the series and always have a hard time waiting for the next book to come out! They have the entire set, and both have this latest book because neither could wait to read it while the other brother was reading! How wonderful that these books trump video games! You probably didn't think that was possible! Imagine showing 9 & 11 year old boys a book, and having them jump up and race to be the first in the family to dive into Greg Hefley's latest quagmires! I'm telling you, when that happens, you've got to duck quicklytwo, or have books available! Even this grandma gets a kick out of reading the books, but please don't tell my boys! They might think I was "cool" or whatever! We certainly wouldn't want that!
Both of my kids love these books! My daughter is 13, but she has been reading them for a couple of years. What's even better about purchasing these books is the fact that she WILL re-read them! She shares little bits of the books with me when she finds an extra-funny part, and I have to admit, they are pretty funny. My son is 8 and he laughs out loud while reading any of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book. They are a must-have on road trips or when staying overnight at the grandparents.

It was such a treat to watch him curl up into bed at night and lie down to read this book! He was obsessed with it. A big plus is that it goes beyond conventional, "rational" game theory to bring game theory into the real world. So along with Nash equilibria, signaling, asymmetric information, auctions, and such, you also get studies of actual human behavior in game scenarios.A critical difference between game theory as a subset of mathematics and game theory as a social science, is that conventional game theory often assumes every game is a one-time occurrence. That is, the players have never met and will never play again.But in the real world, the author notes, we tend to interact with people we know or expect to have dealings with in the future. This can change a player's best strategy. For instance, in the Prisoner's Dilemma game, where a player has the choice of cooperating with the other player or "defecting", the Nash equilibrium is for the player to always defect. But studies show that if the players believe there is at least a 2/3 chance the same players will play again, then a tit-for-tat strategy is more effective. (In tit-for-tat, you base your move on what the other player did in the previous game, e.g., cooperating if he cooperated, defecting if he defected.)The book's back cover blurb notes that Prof Rosenthal is both a mathematician and a business professor. I can certainly believe that -- the book demonstrates both the author's intimate familiarity with the subject matter and the knack to have it all make sense to the reader.
What I like most about this book was the wide variety of applications and the diversity of examples, including examples ripped from recent headlines. Also, I couldn't help but think of immediate applications I'd otherwise never have though of. For example, my company is going through a spasm of voluntary early retirement (offering a bonus) and involuntary layoffs (which don't), but the probability of getting laid off depends on how many other people take early retirement. A lot of strategizing going on right now.This book does an excellent job of building intuition for the basic game theory cases (zero sum, Prisoner's Dilemma and other non-zero sum games), then guiding the reader to broader and broader situations -- imperfect information and signalling, cooperative games and fair division problems, voting systems, auctions. These cases and their solution approaches are explained clearly and in an engaging style. There are many examples, including several very interesting real-world case studies, for example Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD, Cuba missile crisis, tobacco advertising, various elections, auctions for transmission rights, Coke vs. Pepsi, and many others. One important theme is that lose-lose situations can sometimes be transformed into something better, for example by building trust among parties.The last section expands to very wide-ranging and unexpected applications. For example, game theory models are now successfully used by biologists both at the level of individual organisms and of entire populations. Paradoxes of traditional economic behavioural assumptions are addressed, with discussion of both alternative theoretical models and the fascinating results of game theory experiments that test those alternatives.Credit is given throughout the book to the individuals who developed these ideas, a nice touch that humanizes the field and gives some historical context. There's an excellent list of further resources for deeper investigation.One thing I learned is that the solution strategies can be quite different for slightly different games. It's rather like solving differential equations -- very different strategies for slightly different problem variants. It's a bit unfortunate since it makes the field seem less elegant, without a simple core solution concept.It's easier to read this book in paper than on a Kindle. Since later chapters build on concepts and examples introduced earlier, one sometimes wants to quickly jump back to review, and that's still easier to do with a real book where you can flip through pages quickly.

One page shows kids using their muscles on a bar; opposite is a diagram of the body's muscles, from biceps and ligaments to the Achilles tendon. One page describes "your incredible brain," which sends messages at lightning speed along wire-thin fibers called nerves; opposite is an anatomical diagram of the brain. The lungs, the heart and blood vessels, and the stomach and intestines get the same treatment. In an afterword to adults, Rockwell talks about the problem of overweight children and makes an enthusiastic pitch for healthy physical fun. I bought two copies "new" my rating is for the condition of one of these copies - stains on nearly every page, one page heavily soiled, back cover heavily soiled. The other copy was in perfect condition so hopefully this was a fluke deal and not something that happens with any frequency? Condition aside, LOVE the book, I purchased it to accompany nutrition lessons.
Average only because it wasn't the exact book (poetry etc) that I used to read my children and students. I only wanted the one I remembered. This was similar, but not the same, even tho the name was the same.Nothing was actually wrong with the book, just not what I was looking for.
Not as spectacular as previous reviews led me to believe, especially for the price, but a good message to send to young kids. If we weren't an already active family, I may have thought it's content more valuable.
I am a PE & Health teacher. My students love to have this book read to them, or to read it themselves when possible. The book is fact based, but written in a way children can understand. This makes it easy to re-visit the book, or pages of the book, to review facts.
Great book
I think the concept of the book and its intent are great. Kids learn from the stuff they see on the screen and in books, so what better way to convey the message of health and what makes our bodies strong.So I have to ask, what in the heck was the author thinking by having the kid sitting on the bench with his headphones on eating a bag of CHIPS on not 1, but 3 pages in the book. Seriously? I was hoping there would be some kind of statement made on how that wasn't a great choice (and it does later touch on good nutrition) but it never does go back and point out the poor choice.Otherwise this would be a 5 star rating. Still good, but not great.
What a super book. It is kid friendly and makes learning about our bodies fun. The pictures and wording are both age appropriate. My grandsons (ages 3 & $) are both gaining from the book and love to see what happens to their food. It also has a great message to keep your body moving (that thing called exercise). Kudos to the author!
I like this book because of its pictures It let children know that health is so important. As a school nurse, it has got a lot of attention.

This book is a must for anyone teaching about the civil rights movement, or for anyone who wants to deepened their knowledge of the movement. There is so much that has been forgotten from that period of time, partially because the history textbooks we have our students read completely water down the movement into just a few individuals who magically transformed society by themselves in a short period of time. The lessons in this book show students that a long history of struggle, grassroots and collective organizing, and direct action by thousands of people were the true catalysts for bringing our country closer to equality. It is so important to teach students the power that ordinary people have when they become organized. This book gives you all the resources you need to do just that.
I am giving this one star for the omission of some major civil rights figures. I blame not just the authors but also their supposed advisors. I'll give their names and the books that describe their place in the movement: Gloria Richardson (Civil War on Race Street), Father James Groppi (The Selma of the North), Benjamin Davis (Black Liberation, Red Scare), William Patterson (Black Revolutionary), and Rodolfo "Corky" Gonzales (The Crusade for Justice).

Whether you are a serious collector or someone who just likes Barbies and wants to learn the era in which each one was made, I recommend this book to you. I am a novice when it comes to knowing what each doll should look like, including what the clothes she is wearing should look when they are a complete set.This book is very easy to use and makes it fun to learn more about Barbie.

Now this is an amazing detailed book! Filled with 100% color photographs of the dolls face (closeup) & boxes. An amazing interesting book! It features thousands of dolls! You cant read it all in one day! perfect!
