This is a very good book. I'm not good at economics at all and this book is very good at explaining ideas to non-econ people. Some chapters are a bit on the long side but if you take the time to read this text you will have a better understanding of things you probably didn't understand before you read this book..which I can't say for many economics books.
I was very happy purchasing this book because it was very cheap compared to the prize in my college bookstore. It's also in very good condition.
I ordered this book from Warehouse Deals, an Amazon subsidiary. Warehouse Deals sent the wrong book. However, Amazon quickly issued a refund and a return shipping label, but I had to re-order. Unfortunately, the mix-up means I will not have this book for the start of my Public Finance class.

This book gives a very vast description about all grass. If you are having trouble with your grass this will not solve the problem or give you answers. It simply tells you about all sorts of grass and where it grows. Oh ya, and they talk about different types of weeds. Not on how to correct them.
Lots of great information, but I do wish there were actual photos rather than colorless illustrations for some of the information presented. Otherwise, following this book will lead to better lawn care.
A great starter guide for those new to lawn care and a little beyond. I'm a new home owner who inherited a lawn with some problems. I bought this book to learn the basics of lawn care and to start my spring lawn rehab. Just finished the project and awaiting the results.I have no comparison, but the book was what I expected, including everything from starting a new lawn, general lawn maintenance and rehabbing an old lawn.
This book covered so many topics and proved many of myths to be incorrect. Very easy to read and covered some interesting information about a wide variety of things from starting a new lawn, strategies sports teams use for their fields(yes), species of grass, maintaining your lawn and even ways to dress up your yard/house. l have pages ear marked and I look back to this book often.
Great book with a lot of helpful insights. I was a little disappointed that it didn't have full color pictures, but you still gain a lot of insight and knowledge from Mellow, a pro in the lawn care industry.

The publisher has automatically "updated" my original purchased of this Kindle book and others (Hardy Boys volumes 1-4) and replaced it with this awful modern version. I feel that I have been ROBBED of the book that I purchased in 2009. Amazon says they cannot return the book that I purchased as the decision to upgrade came from the publisher. I am disappointed in this version and angry that this update happened without my permission. I advise turning off the automatic update option in your Kindles - maybe you can avoid this happening to you.
I definitely recommend the Hardy Boys novels. This is the original version, and has a 5th-6th grade reading level. The books are part of the AR Book program, so your kids can test on them. They present some challenging older words and ideas, which I enjoyed explaining to my son. The mysteries are appropriate for girls or boys, and are quite intriguing to the end. You will find no inappropriate words or innuendo, which is refreshing in this day of early lost innocence.
I bought these for my son at the recommendation of his grandfather who read the books himself as an unmotivated pre teen. The series inspired him to become an avid reader and productive member of society. With any luck this collection will keep my son away from gangs, drugs, and the poserers of the Celtic dance scene. His grandfather is the crazy doctor guy in Independence Day.
His eyes lit up when this Hardy Boys volume set arrived. He has had hours of enjoyment reading these clasics, and I do not have to force him to do summer reading so that he would not be "rusty" when school starts. It is so refresing to have him run up to me as an excited twelve-year old to tell me what he just read. As he finishes the books, he can't wait to tell me the ending and if he thought he had almost fiugured out the clues. I would advise all parents to get the kiddos off the computers and cell phones long enough to enjoy reading the classics that will live on. A good book can take one to all kinds of adventures and places, and the Hardy Boys does just that!!
This is a great mystery-action-adventure story where the Hardy Boys stumble upon a ring of opium smugglers importing dope from a Chinese supplier named Li Chang through a hidden port.Make sure you read the uncensored version from 1927, not the ridiculous and absurd rewrite from 1959. Besides crude censorship, the rewrite is also incoherent since several chapters were ripped out. The '27 version is available used or in the reprint by Applewood Books.Although McFarlane's original version of the book takes a little less credulity to enjoy, it's still hardly "literature." Nevertheless, the action is just right for 8-10 year olds. This book keeps mine on the edges of their seats. Frankly, more sophisticated action-adventure might be confusing to persons their age.The book has some stereotypes and language that would be received with offense since the latter half of the 20th century, but it is an honest and benign vignette of American culture in its day. I'm glad some things have changed in the last 90 years, but I don't see any good coming from hiding the past.
This book and the series are still incredible all these years later..... I first read them as a nine year old and now I am gifting them to children in my life. Yes, they are old fashioned but they are clean and innocent and I don't have to worry about reading each one again to see if it is appropriate before I give them as a gift. :)
I have to agree with another reviewer's comments. I read every Hardy Boys book growing up, and when I discovered they were available for the Kindle I started to purchase the entire series again, to rekindle some of that joy I first experienced. And I LOVED that they were using the original covers . . . they transported me back to my youth as much as the stories themselves. So you can imagine how angry I was when I found the publisher had chosen to update my purchase with a garish cover not worth the ink it took to produce. Without my permission, no less. In any event, instead of looking forward to purchasing and reading the entire series once more, I will--because I have no guaranty that what I buy will remain as I bought it--spend my money elsewhere. I'm sure the publisher feels this 'update' is a shrewd decision on their part to move the Hardy Boys into more modern times. But by trying to do so they have lost the very essence of the book's appeal to readers such as myself. Naughty publisher! Bad, bad publisher!
Fantastic box set of books and my 9 year old loves these! This was excellent value for money and I only paid $22 with Amazon Prime but there was a $39.99 sticker on the box set so clearly I got a good deal!

The Tragedy of King Lear is a gem with keen insights into the ways that people can be superficial at their own peril and the peril of those they love. Unfortunately, I read the Kindle version. As with many Kindle books that involve formatting, the playscript was very difficult to follow due to erroneous breaks in the lines of text. Read King Lear as a physical book.
This 'interpretation' alongside the original makes for much easier reading, while making the original so readily available also gives one the 'texture' of how the original felt. There is so much meaning and so much feeling contained in this play that the interpretation is essential unless one is able to interpret all the old English terms by oneself. So, I will certainly purchase further editions by this author's interpretations for more appreciation of the many plays of Shakespeare.
Like I say about all Shakespeare: the Arden versions are my favorite. I own about a third of the Canon in them already. The footnotes are my favorite parts about it, and they're great because I don't have to carry my Lexicon around everywhere.King Lear is a brilliant play, all around. Between the family ties, the love and lust, and just the crazy existential dialogue, it's just a great read all-around.
This was helpful as a precursor to seeing a live production of the play, as it had been many years since I last read it. Shakespeare's language is, of course, beautiful, but it is also helpful to be able to glance at the "translation" to make sure I am really getting the meaning correctly.
I'm a fan of the layout of Folger Shakespeare Library. The covers are also beautiful, but the play on the right, explanation of archaic terms on the left style is very helpful to the reader and makes getting into Shakespeare much easier.King Lear is a great tragedy. It is very enjoyable.
The Modern Library/RSC Shakespeare series IS a very valuable addition. Inexpensive edition of the plays, helpful scene-by-scene summaries of the action, etc. But by far the most valuable part of the half dozen volumes I have studied is the "In Performance" sections. This is what sets this series apart from most others. Here, are performance histories detailing a variety of historic interpretations, interviews with contemporary directors and actors, revealing how they interpreted the text, and turned it into a stage drama.This Lear volume, unfortunately, is marred by the "temporally ethnocentric" and gross overemphasis upon the 1970 Peter Brook production, which perversely saw Lear as a Beckett or Brecht play. Instead of Shakespeare's profound, nuanced picture of a complex world of good and evil, with glimpses of transcendent, redeeming dimensions, we are given--as the proper touchstone to all future presentations--an absurdist, nihilistic vision of life, deliberately removing all affirmation of the worth of life, and of a distinction between good and evil! Hard to believe? Cf. pp. 166 ff. "Productions of Lear would {could?} never be the same after this." ??Even in this flawed volume, there is much to learn. And most of the other volumes I have studied in this series are not marred by such imbalanced "Mod" decadence. I hope the volume on TWELFTH NIGHT, with its gratuitous, stressed homosexualizing of several relationships, is not a sad omen for future volumes in the series.
King Lear is a brilliantly written tragedy. The characters were highly comp!ex and we'll drawn out. You can see the influence of Greek tragedies in William Shakespeare's writing. I would like to read again.
I have been reading (and going to see productions of) Hamlet since high school. I've read it many times. However, I got this edition to quickly refresh my memory before going to see a production of it recently, and it was incredible. The layout is incredibly helpful (one passage in the original Shakespearean language, the next is the modern translation) and easy to keep track of, plus it is easily understood. You can easily read just the original Shakespreare, just the modern version, or both simultaneously. I'm an avid fan of the play, and well-versed it in, and I would suggest this to beginners or even seasoned fans such as myself. Completely worth it!

Former Buffalo Bills' offensive lineman Joe DeLamielleure made some news well after retirement. He's been a very outspoken critic of the NFL's pension system to the point where the arguments have gotten rather personal.All of that might make people forget what a great lineman DeLamielleure was. He's not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame for no reason, after all. It's a good idea, then, to have him sit down and go over some stories about his days in pro football, mostly with the Buffalo Bills.The resulting book, "Joe D's Tales from the Buffalo Bills," is a breezy and interesting read.DeLamielleure came to the Bills at exactly the right time from his standpoint. He immediately moved in at offensive guard, where he joined by an excellent young line. Oh, the group had a pretty good running back behind him by the name of O.J. Simpson.The line came to be known as the Electric Company, because it turned on the Juice (O.J., that is.) Simpson became the first NFL player to run for 2,000 yards in a season, a remarkable achievement in a 14-game season. (If you are wondering, DeLamielleure has a few things to say about Simpson's current "situation" -- mostly sad ones.)DeLamielleure spent most of the rest of the decade in Buffalo. The Bills started off well and then faded into the depths of the league, but Joe D. was always part of the solution instead of the problem. He showed up every week, ready to play. It took the arrival of Chuck Knox, a man he didn't like much, to eventually drive him out of town.While the ending of his time was a little sour, Joe D. obviously relished his time in Buffalo. He writes lovingly about the town, its fans and his teammates. Players like Reggie McKenzie and Joe Ferguson come out well in the book, but so does linebacker Merv Krakau -- not a major player in Bills' history.A couple of errors put a small dent in the book's credibility. There is a reference to Larry Felzer of the Buffalo Daily News -- well, actually that's Larry Felser of the Buffalo Evening News. Considering that Felser gave the introductory speech to when Joe D. went into the Hall of Fame, that's a bit embarrassing. A caption says Ralph Wilson is posing with NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle; it's a little tough to tell but it sure looks like Lamar Hunt is with Rozelle and not Wilson.Those hurt a little, but overall this is a good-natured book that fits in nicely with Sports Publishing's series of books on memorable players and teams. If you were in the stands for the first game ever played at The Ralph (when it was Rich Stadium) in 1973, you'll enjoy this one.

Good book for basic information about the 12 minor prophets
Okay, so, if you just saw the title of this book, what do you think the subject matter concerns? Come on now, be honest! How many thought it dealt with the twelve apostles? I’ll bet a very high percentage. If you went with the twelve apostles, you were mistaken.Now the full title: The Message of the Twelve: Hearing the Voice of the Minor Prophets. It’s all about the last twelve books of the Old Testament. The book is written by Richard Alan Fuhr, Jr. and Gary E. Yates. Both are professors at Liberty University School of Divinity. Fuhr deals in biblical studies and Yates in Old Testament studies. The book is published by B&H Academic.If you have never applied yourself to a study of the minor prophets (as I suspect many have not) and you have a desire to do so, but don’t know where to begin, this is definitely a volume, if not THE volume, with which to begin. Although it’s been written by two scholars, it is designed for pastors, teachers and even personal study.The book has two major sections although they are not designated as such in the Table of Contents. Chapters one through four comprise introductory matter familiarizing us with the twelve minor prophets and their world. Then in chapters five through sixteen Fuhr and Yates take us through a book-by-book study of each of the prophets in biblical order. Each of these twelve chapters follows a similar arrangement – Introduction, Structure, Exposition and Theological Message and Application. Scattered throughout the volume are diagnostic charts to assist in the understanding of the prophet. There is an extensive bibliography at the end for those who wish to dig in even deeper.To gain the maximum understanding, my suggestion for using this book is to read and digest chapters 1-4 and then systematically study chapters 5-16. Have your favorite Bible and a notepad beside you when you commence. While this is not the be-all, end-all commentary on the minor prophets, it is comprehensive and you will leave this book feeling like a “minor scholar†on the minor prophets.Pastors and teachers should rush to procure this volume especially if the minor prophets are in their near future.Disclaimer: This book was provided to me by B&H Publishing for a fair and honest review.
The Book of the Twelve is a wild ride, however, because we are so far removed from this culture and history, even the harshest critiques preached against Israel (see #1, Nahum 1.13) put many right to sleep. What hope is there for the modern day mother with kids to understand the hope found in Zechariah? What conviction is Joel supposed to bring to the busy husband who is tired from a long week of work? Richard Fuhr, Jr. and Gary Yates have written The Message of the Twelve: Hearing the Voice of the Minor Prophets with the purpose of unveiling some of the mystery that shrouds the Twelve from our eyes. Fuhr and Yates aim to present to the reader of the the individual voices that make up the Twelve.Layout: There are two parts to the book.Part 1 consists of four chapters: The World of the Twelve (the historical placement of the Minor Prophets), the Role of the Twelve (what were the OT prophet's job description?), the Words of the Twelve (the literary techniques they used to get grab their audiences attention), and the the Book of the Twelve (the unity of the twelve books).Part 2The next twelve chapters are summaries of each of the Twelve's books. After introducing the book and giving some of the historical background information, the authors present the structure of the book, showing that each book was purposefully written. None of them were just thrown together (although Hosea is difficult to outline). The authors then give a brief commentary on each section, ending with a Theological Message and Application of X section where the message of the book is condensed into a few paragraphs and its significance throughout the canon of Scripture (and primarily in the NT) is brought to light.ConclusionThis book is a plea for the church to renew their interest in the Twelve. It remains part of God's inerrant and inspired word. There are four ways the Twelve continues to speak to the church. (1) It gives a distinctive portrayal of God, (2) it gives an ethical call for God's people to "act justly, love faithfulness, and walk humbly" with God (Mich 6.8), (3) it shows ways God deals with his people and the nations, and (4) it comforts the church with its message of comfort, restoration, and the kingdom of God that is coming in full.Recommended?For twelve books that many of us have a difficult time reading and understanding today, Fuhr and Yates have provided the church with an important work. They provide the literary structure of each book. They show wordplays that we miss in English translations, and connections within the literary structure from from the repetition of certain words. They clearly explain each section of each book, and finish it off with it's application for believers today. This is a solid work for the student, pastor, and teacher. This is the perfect primer to use when studying the Minor Prophets. This should be read with a Bible on your desk and a pen in your hand.
