Ground beef on the trail, mixed in with homemade spaghetti sauce... so rewarding after a long slog up the Sierra Nevadas!!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book. I had the first edition, lent it to a friend and never saw it again. So I bought this newer edition. Everything I have ever made from both versions was delicious on the trail. What makes it especially great is the nutritional info.The meal planner at the back of the book is a good reference too for people who are just getting into backpacking.This is a must have for backpackers who are sick of pre-packaged food.

Outstanding recipe book! I got tired of paying through the nose for pre-packaged dehydrated meals for backpacking. I received a dehydrator as a gift so decided to try a few recipes before an upcoming backpacking trip. I order this book along with a few others - and I tried a recipe or two from each. The instructions and quality of the meals in LipSmackin' Backpackin' were hands down the best. I just finished a two day backpacking trip where I volunteered to provided three meals for five of us and everyone raved at how good the meals were. I even pulled of a cake in a backpacking pot! Highly recommend.

Good book. has a lot of extras. But like most books like this, expect a lot of beans, rice, and pasta. but its not 80% that.Each recipe have a icon at top stating if its carnivore, vegetarian, or vegan.

The best cookbook I've found for wilderness backpacking, canoeing or bike touring trips. I have 4 or 5 books of this type, but we always seem to end up picking our meals from this one. All the recipes we've tried are tasty. It does presume some knowledge of food dehydration, so don't expect to get that here - buy another book for that. One frustration is the inconsistent number of servings which vary from one recipe to the next. Some recipes are hard to scale because they utilize prepackaged ingredients such as lipton onion soup mix or pasta sides and its difficult to accurately use partial packages. There is good variety however, and anybody should be able to find recipes suited to their tastes and abilities.

It is very helpful for putting together backpacking meals and menus. It is most helpful if you have access to a food dehydrator (which I don't, yet). Buying bulk dehydrated ingredients to make the recipes has worked for some of these recipes.

Delicious recipes from backpackers who have hiked the scenic trails and fixed the meals on the trails. Trail tested and proven.

Haven't had the opportunity to try any of the recipes yet but being a person that cooks often I can't wait to try many of them. I love how each recipe is set up with instructions for home and out on the trail. My only complaint so far is that there is not a recipe index at the beginning of each section.

Wow, this book is really packed with good stuff! So much information, lots of recipes, resources, and techniques. There's a really nice variety of recipes, and I think the salads are particularly interesting. There's a lot to be learned just by leafing through the recipes; I've already gotten a ton of ideas to incorporate into my trail cooking repertoire.

I remembered this book from my childhood and got it for my daughter. She's 6 years old and has been having trouble with a few girls in her class, they always want to be first. Trouble with Friends helped my daughter see how not taking turns can be hurting others. She's made reference to this book when she tells,me about her day and her friends.This book is great for young children.

In the Trouble with Friends, Sister Bear gets in a fight with her new friend. Sister learns that no one can always be right all the time. Mama Bear teaches Sister the importance of having friends to play with and lets her learn by her own mistakes. My four-year-old and I have discussions before, during, and after reading any of the Berenstain Bear Books. Each Berenstain Bear book, including Trouble with Friends, teaches kids about life lessons. in a comical, childlike way. I found this book on Amazon for dirt cheap. It was delivered in excellent condition just five days after my order was placed. I'm a big fan of the inexpensive books and the delivery system in which Amazon is made-up of. I don't know what we would do without Amazon.

My 8 year old daughter has been having trouble compromising with friends. I remembered this book from my childhood. We have read it a couple times now and it is really helping us to talk about the subject without her being overly defensive.Love the classic Bears :)

I loved these books growing up and my four year old does now too!! There's stickers included in the books, which helps me entice my daughter to read with me and answer questions!

Good Book, my daughter made me buy every one for her and she reads them to me before bed. The lessons in these books should be mandatory reading for adults when they turn 21, it would make the world a more friendly place.

I love the Berenstain Bears books for my kids. Such fun educational stories. My kids get very upset when I buy one of these books, but when I start reading they sit quietly next to me and then start bringing me other Berenstain Bears books to read. They do love them, we usually read about 3-5 books at a time.

This book is full of wonderful wisdom and insights. Sheen's writing style is very accessible and the fact that the selections are not very long means that it is an easy book to pick up and soak up. The only negative for me is that there is a great deal of repetition but that comes from the fact that it is an anthology.

I am an avid Sheen fan. I have read more books by Sheen than any other author. I love this book because it presents writings that I have not read in other books. It is an anthology so each chapter is a few pages but each talk it loaded with dynamite.If like Sheen get this book.

Over the last three years I have read a dozen books by or about Reverend Fulton J. Sheen. A couple of the others were anthologies after a form and excerpts of Sheen’s own writings compiled by an editor. One was a flop and I never bothered finishing it. The books of Advent and Lenten meditations are well done but leave a reader wanting more. But I often find when I read something by Rev. Sheen, I want more. And this book falls in that category. Of the 4 or 5 books I have read that were compiled of Sheen’s works this is by far the best. Alan J. Smith is the editor of this amazing volume, and though his name does not appear on the cover, credit is due. From the introduction of the volume we are told:“Given their importance and the impact they had on society, it seemed appropriate to bring together in this anthology some of Archbishop Sheen’s meditations on the words of Jesus and Mary from seven books he wrote from 1933 to 1945:The Seven Last Words (1933)The Cross and the Beatitudes (1937)The Rainbow of Sorrow (1938)Victory over Vice (1939)The Seven Virtues (1940)Seven Words to the Cross (1944)Seven Words of Jesus and Mary (1945)This anthology has been arranged into seven chapters, each of which addresses one of the seven last words spoken by Christ on the Cross. By todays standards where so many books are being published at under 250 or even right around 200 pages this book is a larger volume. But trust me it is worth it. This book is an incredible read. I average over 100 books read a year, and more than double that the last few years. This book is one of the best Christin books I have read in the last few years.

I may not have the skill, aptitude or patience to do what he does, but I will still end up with better-looking yard sale finds than I ever imagined possible. If you love the look of fine old furniture, but shop thrift stores/Craigslist/ebay, Pourny demonstates how to bring well-made but worn wood furniture back to maximum gorgeousness. I can't wait to revive a Widdicombe mid-century mod bachelor's chest I bought much worse for the wear--but well made and rock solid. I can revive the drawer fronts' original finish, repair veneer and stain the more damaged body with Pourny's not-quite ebonizing technique. I'm so glad I got this book. Each technique--stain/oil or shellac finish, French wax polish, two degrees of ebonizing (true ebony and not-quite), gilding, repairs, hardware aging, etc.--is illustrated with step by step photos of what he does and clear, concise instructions. He gives a list of tools and materials up front, so you'll have what you need start to finish. And he names names in terms of products to use, so you'll get the one he himself relies on. And a huge advantage over other furniture makeover guides, he has exquisite taste. He understands the history of a style and works in ways to enhance it, not obliterate it, as did the mistake-book on furniture makeovers I also got. (Oh what awful, ugly things were done.) Pourny suggests you have a DIY refinishing 'kit' on hand that fits your available space: what fits in a box (the bare necessities), a shelf, or a whole wall (soup to nuts). Having the right tools and materials are critical, but what he specifies is not exotic. His directions are thorough and exacting, but not at all intimidating. Best of all, the results he achieves are spectacular, and to some degree achievable, even by me.Highly recommended.

I’m a decorative painter that also restores fine furniture & find a lot of books are filled with fluff that doesn't really give any new information or insight into age old practices or tries to keep their “techniques & products” a secret which eliminated the point of writing a book in this catagory. Unlike some of the others this book is FULL of information, wonderful examples, pictures, and shared tips & tricks on how to do each finishHe quickly establishes his expertise in the field so as the reader you know to trust what he's teaching. Credibility & masters in their craft are becoming hard to find in a world filled with blogs & videos that will teach you how to do anything yourself. Being a master craftsman requires mentorship and years of experience, which Christophe has! The finishes he completes as examples are absolutely stunning!It starts out explaining to the reader how to differentiate periods of furniture, styles, places to shop, and how to become known in the industry as someone with a sharp eye. I particularly love the part that shows you how to figure out what the existing finish is (no matter the age) and how to fo about repairing or re-doing it.He does a wonderful job of explaining why certain pieces are worth more than others; depending on where they were purchased, the craftsman that have worked on them, and the time period in which they come from. This is a great resource for those of us who struggle to explain to people why something of value or antiquity is worth the price!I've not been able to put this down...it will live in my shop & surely be reached for over & over until worn and haggard.From someone whos purchased HUNDREDS of books in this area I can say this is a MUST OWN for anyone in the field or looking to refinish a piece of fine furniture while keeping with the period & original techniques. I’ve not found a better source to date!I cannot thank Christophe for willingly sharing his knowledge with us all and putting it into such a wonderful and easy to read format. If you want to refinish your own pieces of furniture and care for them properly do yourself a favor & GET THE BIBLE!

As someone with related experience in the trades I found this book to be clear, informative, and wide in scope. There is plenty of content that will satisfy a wide spectrum of people with varying interests and abilities. On one end people interested in furniture style and history will be able to also have a glimpse into how the actual finishes and techniques are created, restored and maintained. Those with a strong practical side will be able to make a connection to the evolution of furniture styles and how they form a visual vocabulary that helps us understand the elements of design that we see in all the varying types of furniture around us today. The pictures are clear and the drawings are charming. Truly a wide range of information with something for everyone all done with taste, style, and humor. I especially liked the photos of all the tools used in the trade. Highly recommend for the casual reader to the informed craftsperson.

This is my favorite book for furniture restoration though it covers period identification, I use it for learning restoration techniques. And for that its absolutely amazing.Just reading the materials in this book I've found that I know more about traditional restoration than the instructor of a recent course I took. The instructors solution for all problems was "just strip it" and when asked how to handle certain types of finishes his response was "it depends."This is my go to book and I keep it near me when performing furniture restorations. Its just the right level of detail. I love making my own wax, shellac mix and performing my own french polish. All techniques well documented with photos in this book.If you want information on more modern restoration techniques or a little more detail on the science behind certain processes, buy "Understanding Wood Finishing" in addition to this.

Actually I liked the book. As Lyle is so happy to be with the Primms and NY. And does not want to leave there.As he is very popular with everybody from the kids to his family, Joseph and his wife, and son Joshua.But when Hector P Valenti, the star of stage and screen that is very poor and living on hard times. As he notices Lyle with his family in the park. While walking and wondering what to do with his desperate situation. And thinks of a scheme to win him back into his old act at Vaudeville as both were a hit, it was Lyle more of a hit.As Hector gives him a letter saying that he could find his birth mother. But the Primm family are not buying it. Telling him not to give it any thought. Though Lyle begins to think of his own mother. When he does, the family begins to help take his mind off of it. From working in the garden to going to Joshua's school to helping in Mrs Primm's campaign elections for a friend.But as he thinks of his favorite food besides Turkish Caviar in Graham Crackers. He has to go and the family reluctantly agree as Hector "greets" him when he Lyle has a basket for his mother but takes it nonetheless. As his partner says they both most go on the road to raise money. But it is only for Hector's greed and using Lyle.But as they get enough money and Lyle who does not let fame and fortune get in his way of finding his mom, puts his foot down when he discovers Hector not keeping his word. As Hector is only using the money for himself. But in a sense, Hector does or may feel a sense of guilt into tricking Lyle. Agrees to do so.There they travel finally to find his mother. Will Lyle ever find his mother? Will the Primm family see Lyle again? Will Hector really this time stay true to his word? I know one reviewer didn't like it. But still, Hector you had to feel bad for his situation that he was in. As that is unlike him though he does act pretty selfish throughout a few of the books he is in. But he is nonetheless a good guy at heart.

I love this book. I bought it as a welcome addition to my classroom library. Not as wordy as some of the other Lyle stories.

My students were thrilled to hear the story of how Lyle finds his mother. We had read another story out of sequence and knew his mother was with him and they wanted to know where she came from.

Great series!

My son loved it as a child and now my granddaughter is loving it.
