It has been about two years since I've purchased any of the Dark Hunter Novels as they were not available in bookstores in India. Once I purchased my Kindle I did start reading them again, however the list of characters was so long it began to swirl in my mind and so I stopped at Wren's story. Recently, I decided to go back to the series and see if it was as good as I remembered.I had always loved Fang so I purchased "Bad Moon Rising". It was nice. It should have been awesome. Throughout the Dark Hunter novels that I own the longing between Fang and Aimee seemed so poignant. I was truly looking forward to seeing how they could finally come together. I was left wanting.I can say I had no problem with the Thorn portions of the story although the introduction of a new type of player had me wondering why Kenyon insists on prolonging a series by creating new species instead of creating a new series separately. Having were-hunters and their embelishments and dark-hunters and their embelishments in the same series was confusing enough. I kept hoping for a glossary of terms just to remember what was what. Now we have daimons and demons. Please.I can say I didn't have much of a problem with the book beginning from the time Fang and Aimee met. After all if someone picked this up without reading the previous novels in the series it would have been very confusing. As it was I found myself exiting the story too many times by trying to remember what the back story of many of the scenes were. Talon's Story, Valerius', Vane's, Wren's. My issue of using the previous stories makes up in my opinion almost 3/4 of the story. Granted we get to see some of the kissy kissy that was going on that we were unable to see in the earlier stories, but it wasn't enough. As another reviewer stated, I was told that they loved each other, not shown. I truly didn't get a lot of zing that I had gotten with the earlier novels.Issues I do have include:There are that huge spans of time that are just jumped over. Three lines and three months pass without understanding how either Fang or Aimee were feeling. Just a couple of lines thrown in to say they felt bad. This made the book actually feel more like an outline than a novel. An entire new mythology is being introduced inside a Dark Hunter novel. Maybe I missed something in one of the few books in the series that I haven't read but by looking at the synopsis of the other books I don't think so. Shouldn't there have been a novel just on the Demon stuff and then the two universes merged? Once again I come to the concept that this should have broken into separate series.Family is a major theme in this novel. However, most of the novel is with everyone keeping secrets and being angry with families. Mistrust and anger very little comfort. There were several family time's mentioned, but once again these scenes seemed more like statements from an outline than true emotional family scenes .In conclusion, this story has been interspersed through so many others. It deserved a good in depth piece. I'm glad I was able to see the Fang/Aimee denouement, but too much was missing. I realize 349 pages is not a small book. However, with the breadth of time this story took, with the introduction of a new mythos, with so many previous characters that needed to participate in this story and most important with the love story arc of the series; I wouldn't have minded another 75-100 pages if I could have caught my breath, cried or just felt that zing.

There is SO MUCH that happens in this book. Beyond the fact that it spans several years as we get to follow Fang and Aimee's slow-budding relationship, we get new levels to the already complex world that Sherrilyn Kenyon had built. A shadowy figure emerges who might be on the side of good and we get to see more facets of the Were-Hunter way of life.If I take a really broad look at their relationship, most of the issues that keep Fang and Aimee apart come from Mama Peltier. She's kinda a stubborn old bear and she rules the family with an iron fist. While I get that Aimee felt that she had to do her duty to the family line and mate with a were-bear, doesn't fate have something to do with her chosen mate? Simply ignoring her feelings for Fang while she continues to look for the bear that's going to make her panties burst into flames doesn't seem like it's going to work really well.Anyway. Fang's injury opens up a whole new level of crazy with what he encounters when he's half dead. I am SO CURIOUS how all this will eventually tie in together. Sherrilyn Kenyon's brain must be this insanely fantastic place that's both horrifying and awesome all at the same time.We get to see some old favorites and a different point of view on some of the events that took place in earlier books. Souls are bartered, love is unearthed, and new danger is revealed.Rereading this series has been pretty fantastic.-Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal

So, I've read the first book in the Dark-Hunter series Night Pleasures... and that was it. Not that I didn't like the book but that was all my library carried. So skip forward a month to me cruising books on amazon that are on sale. Which is where I find this gem. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to skip so many books in the storyline but this book reads as a stand alone just fine. At no point was a lost as to what was going on. Now granted I may have connected more with the secondary characters a bit more but I loved the story. The story starts off with Fang, his brother and fellow wolf pack members going into a bar. (yes I realize this sounds like the start of a corny joke). It turns out that the bar is run by were-bears and the bar is a neutralized zone. So when were-jackals show up and not only attack the owners of the bar but threaten the life of Aimee, the bears sister and daughter, the wolves take action. They were brought up to hold females in the utmost respect and to protect them at all costs. What isn't acceptable is inter-species relations. Which just so happens to snowball between Aimee and Fang after the jackal incident. Now yes there is forbidden romance but there is so much more to the story than that. You have two separate species that you follow in this book. We have the bears and the wolves. Now, most shifter books tend to be about wolves and I'll be honest... some subjects like mating were brought up in this book that I hadn't seen in other shifter books. I'm not talking about the "we're mated for life" but the fact that after they get a mate mark, if they don't seal the deal then the male goes limp noodle for the rest of his life. Or that females can be rather ahem, rough shall we say during the horizontal tango. I also liked the aspect of the families in this story. Both Fang and Aimee have close family members that they cherish and would die for. Not to mention the war that's waging against Aimee's family and Fang's personal war with his demon. This is a novel that will leave you wanting for nothing.-Book Sniffers Anonymous
